It is well known that pre and probiotics assist our bodies to maintain a healthy microbiome. But did you know that a microbiome is the total micro-organisms that are located somewhere? This means the handrails in lifts, stairwells, your desk, lift call buttons, etc all have a microbiome.
Disinfectants vs Probiotic Cleaning
Microbiome
When a microbial community is on a solid surface and forms a “layer” there, it is called a biofilm. This biofilm is a layer of protection agains elements that may arm their home and food source. The living community will also adapt based on changes to the environment.
Cleaning using detergents removes surface dirt.
Decontamination using disinfectants kills microorganisms on the surface.
Disinfectants kill bacteria on a surface – the good and the bad. The remaining few bacteria that survive have a large food source (the dead bacteria are food) and repopulate rapidly. The increased use of disinfectants has given micro-organisms the opportunity to develop resistance.
Therefore disinfectants have no effect and new more potent disinfectants have to be made/used.
Probiotic cleaning adds to the microbiome beneficial bacteria that feed on organic pollution, create enzymes to break down biofilm and increase their numbers on the surface.
This greatly limits food sources for harmful bacteria, hampering their ability to grow and re-establish their community.
The Probiotic cleaning product contains 100% natural probiotics (good bacteria). When applied to surfaces they produce highly targeted enzymes that break down the biofilm and dirt allowing it to be removed (e.g. wiping, scrubbing, etc). The probiotics stimulate more good micro-organisms greatly reducing the bad bacteria’s opportunity to recolonise.
